What Makes an Au Pair?

Au pairing relies on a few skills, such as:

  • The ability to care for and enjoy working with children
  • drivers license is usually required
  • first-aid/CPR course is a wonderful asset, and most host families require this

Although not a necessity, previous experience in working with children is preferred.

If you don’t have any child-minding experience and would like to become an au pair, then feel free to contact any after-care in your area. They should be willing to let you assist in the children for a few hours a day to build your experience. They will most likely not pay for this, but it would help you to build the experience you need as an au pair. You could also approach orphanages or similar child-services in your area to volunteer your spare time.
