What Does an Au Pair Do?


An au pair helps a host family with certain day-to-day responsibilities of their children. Typical duties of an au pair can include:

  • Baby-sitting,
  • Fetching children from school,
  • Taking children to after-school activities
  • Preparing healthy meals for children,
  • Providing assistance with studying and homework
  • Assisting in setting up birthday parties
  • Organising play groups

Some au pair roles can also include light housework duties, such as:

  • Cleaning and tidying up after the children,
  • Ironing and cleaning the children’s clothes,
  • Cooking light meals for the children.

Some au pairs have additional skills which a family might require, such as:

  • Language tutoring
  • First-Aid / CPR certificate
  • Special Needs Children experience
  • Maths tutoring
